Source of Light Ministries each year depends on the countless thousands of hours of services that our volunteers give to the Lord. Our volunteers do everything from mow the lawn, data entry, grade Bible lessons, carpentry, load paper into folders, copiers, or printing presses, package Bible lessons, cleaning, electrical, and secretarial work.
Our volunteers are as diverse as the jobs they do here at headquarters. We have retirees, grandmas and grandpas, pastors, welders, electricians, school teachers, truck drivers, business owners, chaplains, house wives and students. One question we often are asked is who can help at SLM? Anyone who has a heart of service for our Lord. We have had many youth groups, Sunday School classes, small groups, Christian Colleges, Christian schools and home school groups help.

Immanuel Baptist Church
Vancouver, British Columbia
immanuelbc.ca
April 4-11, 2018
Estimated Total Journey Cost: $1800
Estimated FBC Member Cost: $1080
Team Size: 12
The Context: Vancouver, British Columbia: Currently sitting at 47% Asian with 44% of its population born outside of Canada, Vancouver is a city of immigrants.  It is the largest Asian city per capita outside of Asia and has the largest Sikh population outside of India.  It is recorded that less than 1% (0.07%) are evangelical. Because of its heavy immigration, Vancouver has become a very strategic city for the spread of the Gospel throughout all of Asia; as many of its residents are temporary or transient.
Immanuel Baptist Church, Vancouver: IBC was planted in 1957 by a group of German immigrants.  Over the years, it has experienced the loss of its second generation and is in the process of rebirth.  Currently IBC is a multigenerational, multi ethnic gathering of 100 people each Sunday.  The congregation is split right down the middle 50/50 of those above and under 40 years of age.  Our congregation claims 23 different nations, mostly Asian, as their birthplace.  It is a beautiful work of our Lord and His Spirit that is unifying people to one culture in Christ.
The Need: Encouragement and Breaking Ground through Prayer: When living in a city that is antagonistic to Christianity, there is a tendency to go into a “protect and survive” mode.  There is a constant need of encouragement in the Lord: to pray for boldness, opportunity and protection as we engage in the ministry of reconciliation.
The Activity: Breaking Ground - Prayer walking
In the face of insurmountable odds - we believe we have been called to be a generation that saturates our neighborhoods in prayer: to walk around the enemies’ strongholds and reclaim them in the name of the Lord.
Encouragement - IBC meal: Because of the heavy immigrant makeup of our local body, we are a group that loves to fellowship over food.  The problem is, that 10% of our congregation is always planning and serving.  Our group loves to cook, so if we just had hands and feet to set up, serve and clean, that would be a blessing to our gathering.
Encouragement - Pastors Night of Prayer and Meal: A night of prayer and fellowship for local pastors that would cut across associational lines.  We would love to invite local pastors to come pray for the city together and then fellowship over a meal.  If possible, this would be cooked and prepared by the team.
Encouragement - Getting to know the pillars: IBC still has some founding members attending from 60 years ago. Many of them have stories of running from the Nazis or Russia.  They have been faithful to the ministry of the Lord.  One evening the team would break up into smaller groups to go and be hosted for a night to hear stories from our “pillars” and their amazing journeys of faithfulness.
